Get rid of real player for a start because it's just evil. Real Alternative is better by a factor of about 15 billion. PowerDVD isn't much good. VLC is brilliant and i'm not sure you need anything else. I've never heard of total video player.
It may well be that VLC is all you need. It doesn't use Direct Show, which is a major advantage. Try uninstalling everything else but Real Alternative but keeping the installs and codecs and see how long you can manage just running that, then reinstall others if you have to. Incidentally, you may have huge problems getting rid of Real Player, as it's one of those programs which pretends to uninstall itself but actually doesn't. |

if i turn my speakers up i can just about hear it. the sound works fine on windows media player, i tunes, divx etc.. i have checked everything i can think of, sound is not muted anywhere everything looks fine in sounds and audio devices in the control panel all the volume sliders are on full, i have tried changing round the cables on my speakers and that doesn't help. i don't understand why this happened to my computer in the first place as i have made any drastic changes, not reinstalled windows and no new hardware, the only thing i did play around with around the time it happened was the programs that came with my soundcard but i changed that all back so don't think it should affect it! i have checked on a load of forums but cant find anything to help!
Has anyone got any ideas? would be grateful for any help Thanks right i just reinstalled the sound card but now no sounds works atall! so toally new problem now! i had to download driver from another computer as when i uninstalled it it stopped my network from working sp i copyed it on to disk and itstall it on mine. it shows up on the device manager list as it did before but now no sound atall. any ideas? |

Is there a way to know EXACTLY (and NOT 2nd GUESS) which codecs are RIGHT for my laptop? The ones that will make the preview pane in video editing software work smoothly, wihtout sticking or freezing and crashing.
These messed it up worse: DivX & Vista packs @ free-codecs.com; I did uninstall AND system restore. My graphics driver NVIDIA GE Force is updated to latest. (Graphics driver & video card = same thing, right?) CCCP (codecs) fixed my "no audio when importing video to hard drive and playing back in WMP" problem. Great! But my video editing software (WMM, etc) still sticks in the preview pane even worse and I cannot edit any more. Video freezes, audio keeps on playing... Specs: HP laptop dv6700 Pavillioin Vista Home Premium 32 bits OS 2GB ram Intel core processor 2 GHz NVIDIA graphics driver (updated to latest) Bios updated Over 51% free of over 130+ GB storage available Do I need an extra codec pack on top of the CCCP? Is there a way to add codecs that will NOT mess up my video editing software but IMPROVE it? What else besides codecs could the problem be? Please help. Thanks! |

I have a cd of xp media center edition sp3, that I burned from an iso that I KNOW to work and to be completely intact. I put the cd in the drive, set it up for my dvd/cd drive to be the first boot device, and it gets stuck on 'boot from cd'. The drive itself is fine, burns and runs cds and dvds fine, the cd is completely clean no damage at all, and as i said, the iso has worked on my stepdads computer (I lost the disk that i burned the iso to first time round). Drive is plugged in fine, I have no idea why it wont work. Also, coincidentally, this is now happening with my hiren boot cd which yesterday worked fine.
Help would be nice :-S |

My laptop is in good state even If I had this for quite a long time now.I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1100.I never had real problems until last week(i've been trying to figure out my problem for almost 2 wks now)I'm trying to avoid not going to Geek Squad in Best Buy so I won't pay.I'm assuming I can figure this out myself--can't! My WMP suddenly can't burn music to a CD, I can't even play a CD. It keeps saying "connect a burner and restart cumputer", I tried to download itunes4.6 maybe I can burn my playlist in there, but no luck still. It also says," disc burner not found or software not found".I checked online to see what are other options that I can do without rebooting my computer cause I have SO MANY FILES. But nothing gives. I am desperate. If the option is rebooting my laptop--what are the steps? Can I really do it on my own-without any much knowledge to computers? Maybe some of you can give me an advice? I am really disappointed this has happened cause this is the only computer I have. Thanks whoever can help me!
Additional info..my handle is Windows XP Home Thanks everyone for the advice! All of the advice here can be a helpful tips for me. I'll do what I can. I am really going out of my mind with this problem. Thanks again everyone. |
